About Us

Alameda Science and Technology Institute is a public magnet high school in the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD). Founded in 2004 through a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, ASTI exists as a partnership between AUSD and the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) and, more specifically, the College of Alameda (COA). As an Early College High School, ASTI provides students the opportunity to enroll as full-time community college students during their 11th and 12th grades. This results in the completion of significant college credits while simultaneously completing a high school degree. These units are transferable to the University of California and California State Universities and may be transferable to other institutions. ASTI's curriculum is designed to prepare students for success at the Early College and Four-Year University levels.

Our student body is diverse, and we actively seek out students who are traditionally underrepresented in the areas of socioeconomic level, home language, and ethnicity. Students who are highly motivated and focused on college should consider applying to ASTI. ASTI also provides many leadership and extracurricular opportunities for students who are looking for experiences outside of their coursework. We have a strong student government and leadership class that organizes regular student events and has founded a number of student clubs and organizations. As a small school, ASTI relies heavily on student leadership and innovation, placing a large amount of responsibility on the student body. Examples include student representation on PTSA and School Site Council, the Student Advisory Committee, and a variety of student-led initiatives and programs.
